A Monologue

Klara: I need change… don’t you see that? I need something better than this life in the country I can't even speak the language of! How do you expect me to find friends? And even if I did, I can't keep them! I’ll Leave Them Behind! You’ve never had to go through this! You can't judge me for what my actions are because you don’t know what the correct actions are! (Mom tries to grab Klara’s arm) NO! LEAVE ME ALONE! I’M LEAVING THIS TRASH BAG OF A HOME! I HAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO BUY A PLANE TICKET!... (she sighs) So Bye… see you never. (She slams the door to her bedroom and starts packing)

Klara: And don’t you dare come in here to try and comfort me to stay! It’s not going to work!...

(she throws clothing and personal stuff in a suitcase. She then closes it, grabs her phone, and walks out the door.)

Klara's thoughts: need an Uber. To the airport… ok, just need to wait a couple of mins. Oh no here they come…

(her mom and father come out to get her inside. They start to yell at her, saying what irresponsible she is, why she shouldn’t do this, that she’s still a minor, and that she can't leave without consent from her parents.)

Klara: NO! I’M NOT COMING BACK IN! I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN THE GINEPIG FOR YALL TO SEE WHAT GOOD AND PARENTING ARE! AND A SIDE NOTE, NONE OF IT WAS GOOD PARENTING! MY LIFE HAS BEEN IN SHAMBLES! MY BOYFRIEND DIED FROM THIS WAR! I CAN’T GET THE LOVE OF MY LIFE BACK!...

(She starts to tear up and starts to cry. But she stays up and doesn’t give in.)

Look there’s my ride out of hell. Again, see you guys never…
